I had fun writing this passage in the lyrics to Messenger.
I could see the adventure, the excitement, the dangers, the epiphanies, the wonder, the darkness, the landscapes, the beauty, the connections on this roundtrip excursion from the sea of my imagination back to the land of my pen and paper.
“Travel far,” is the exploration, the expansion, the growth that stretches for miles and miles and occurs again and again. It speaks to the need to voyage through your greatest depths and endless heights.
“Stay close,” is a call to remain intimately connected to the heart of you. To maintain a keen awareness of what you want, what you need and what you must release.
I am reminded of the the book, The Alchemist, by Paulo Coelho with the lyrics “stay… near.” As the protagonist, Santiago, journeys thousands of miles in search of a treasure at the foot of the Kemetic pyramids, he learns he had to travel far to find what was near.
“Stay..near” calls us home. Home to our center, our core. It is the treasure we must continually seek, have and hold no matter the distance.
